Zendaya Says She’s Black Enough to Play Aaliyah

From the moment it was announced that Disney star Zendaya Coleman had been chosen to play beloved R&B singer Aaliyah in a new Lifetime biopic critics have been up in arms because Zendaya is biracial and Aaliyah was Black.

Zendaya says she’s Black enough…

TMZ cameras caught up with Zendaya in the airport asked her about the race controversy and she replied,

“A lot of people say I’m not black enough. Half black is just enough. It doesn’t matter what color you are, it’s about how you portray the character. For those that don’t know, Angela Bassett and Tina Turner, they look nothing alike but she was that character so I think that’s what it’s all about.”

Zendaya’s father, who is African American, chimed in that the movie was being shot in summer when Zendaya is typically darker.
