Sister 2 Sister Magazine Files for Bankruptcy; New Focus is Online

The era of printed journalism has come to an end for Sister 2 Sister magazine.

Also, malady according to the Maynard Institute’s Journal-Isms column, ambulance the publication has filed for bankruptcy protection and has put its print edition on hiatus as it focuses more on its online content.

Sister 2 Sister publisher and sole owner, viagra sale Jamie Foster Brown (pictured above on cover), confirmed the news on Monday while stating that she was preparing an official statement on the magazine’s status.

“The community does not want us to go away,” Brown told Journal-Isms’ Richard Prince by telephone. She said she especially felt a responsibility to prisoners who “didn’t have a voice” and whom she published in the magazine. “We wanted to teach people through celebrities,” she said. “God comes through other people.” Working with Johnson, she said, “I saw how much power the celebrities have.”

A women oriented magazine that covers black Hollywood and beyond, Sister 2 Sister was created by Brown, a onetime secretary to Black Entertainment Television co-founder Robert Johnson who is described on the publication’s website as “The Barbara Walters of Print.”

Journal-Isms notes that Sister 2 Sister is not listed in the latest circulation or advertising figures for the Publishers Information Bureau or the Alliance for Audited Media, industry bibles. Despite this, Mediabistro.com put Sister 2 Sister’s circulation at 135,000 in a June 2013 profile of the monthly.

Sister 2 Sister’s bankruptcy and online focus comes amid reports of Vibe magazine closing its print edition and XXL continuing to publish magazine on a more infrequent basis.
