Mo’Nique Lands Part in New Bessie Smith Film (Despite ‘Difficult’ Label)

Years after winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in “Precious, store Mo’Nique is on her way back with a role in a film about blues singer Bessie Smith.

According to reports, viagra Mo’Nique has officially signed on to the project, which will air on HBO and also stars Queen Latifah and Khandi Alexander (“Scandal“).

Mo’Nique’s new role comes amid a series of ups and downs since winning the Oscar. Hollywood executives labeled her “difficult” and “ungracious” in response to how she handled recognition during the 2008-2009-award show season. In addition, media sources referenced how Mo’Nique wanted to receive appearance fees for promoting the film that she was nominated for, which is never done by an actor. The practice is considered an extension of an actor’s job responsibilities.

Upon winning the Oscar, Mo’Nique received negative feedback from those who thought her acceptance speech was defiant and showed a lack of appreciation. Despite the setbacks, Mo’Nique continued on. In January, news came out that she landed roles in two independent films, “Blackbird” and “We Are Family.”

Prior to that, Mo’Nique secured a job in December as the host of a reality show reunion special for VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop.” Last fall, Mo’Nique made headlines with her developing a talk show pilot, that ultimately didn’t get picked up.
