Instead of being embarrassed about working at Trader Joe’s, Geoffrey Owens proudly wore his work name tag, and told Robin that the recent attention he’s received has made him more famous than when he was actually famous.

“I kind of feel like that character in the Woody Allen movie and he wakes up one morning and he’s a celebrity all of a sudden and had no idea where it suddenly came from. It came out of nowhere.”

Geoffrey has been working for Trader Joe’s for about 15 months, and previously taught acting and directing. Since that wasn’t enough money for Geoffrey’s family to make ends meet, he got another job that provided the flexibility to allow him to take acting roles. Even though he’s appreciative so many people stood up for him, Geoffrey does not want sympathy job offers.

“I know this might sound weird, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable getting acting jobs from this event. I wouldn’t mind getting auditions. I wouldn’t mind if people called me in to try out for things due to what’s happened, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable with someone giving me a job because this happened. I want to get the job because I’m the right person.”

Tyler Perry seems to be interested, and sent this message via Twitter:

“#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.”

No word on if Geoffrey will or will not take Tyler Perry’s offer, but he did express deep gratitude to the countless people who have stood up for him.

“I really want to thank everybody out there. Family, friends, the Hollywood community and the general public for their support and positivity they’ve shown to me. It’s amazing, it’s really quite astounding.”

Good luck, Geoffrey Owens… We’re rooting for you!
