Among Rock’s monologue targets were the Boston Marathon, 9/11 and the over-commercialization of Christmas. The funnyman left no doubt about whether he would ever enter the Freedom Tower. For the record, the answer is “Never” to the prospect of visiting the site, which was built to replace the Twin Towers, for any reason. Not even if it involved one of Hollywood’s hottest movie stars.
“I don’t care if Scarlett Johansson is buck naked on the 89th floor in a plate of ribs, I’m not going in there,” he joked.
Aside from the controversy, Rock provided other memorable moments while appearing in various “SNL” skits, one of which showcased him alongside the show’s black castmembers.
Musically, the other noteworthy “SNL” moment came when Prince performed an eight-minute medley of songs from his latest solo release, “Art Official Age” and his collaboration album with 3rdEyeGirl, “Plectrumelectrum.” The performance, which included an appearance from 3rdEyeGirland guest vocalist Lianne La Havas, marks the first time Prince performed 8 minutes straight on national TV since the Super Bowl XLI halftime show in 2007.
Up next for “SNL” is Kendrick Lamar, who will be the musical guest when the show returns November 15th with Woody Harrelson as the host.
