CeeLo Green’s Exit from ‘The Voice’ Done to Avoid Firing Says Insider

Looks like there was more to CeeLo Green’s exit from “The Voice” than what the Goodie Mob member revealed.

An insider with knowledge of Green’s situation revealed  that the entertainer’s decision to quit the popular NBC show was done more to avoid being fired by the network and Mark Burnett Productions, find the producer of “The Voice.”

Although NBC wanted to join Green in announcing his departure together, buy a second insider with knowledge of the situation stated that the “F-You” singer opted to drop the news on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

 

The timing of Green’s announcement puts producers in a complicated position as they are unsure what to do with his vacant coach’s seat. The departure caps off a period of ups and downs regarding Green during the fifth season of “The Voice.” A season that included, shop as the insider described, at least one “meltdown,” according to the TheWrap.

With Burnett spend a lot of time with the emotional rapper/singer last season and at least two occasions where Green had to leave the set, there was a general belief among those involved with “The Voice” that the weight of potential prison time from a legal case had taken its toll on the entertainer.

Green is accused of slipping ecstasy to a 33-year-old woman ecstasy while the pair was dining at a downtown Los Angeles restaurant last July of last year. He’s charged with furnishing a controlled substance, a felony charge that can land him up to four years in state prison.

The new revelations on Green comes after his announcement of quitting “The Voice” officially comes to light on the “Ellen” show. Although he is leaving the coach’s seat, Green’s relationship with NBC will continue.

“I have a television show development deal with them as well and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year,” he said while citing his desire to not “wear out my welcome” as the reason behind his departure.

At this time, Burnett has not commented on Green’s announcement.

Reacting to the shake up at “The Voice,” an NBC spokesman told TheWrap:

“CeeLo’s departure didn’t blindside us at all. This was a mutual decision and we’re looking forward to working with him in the future on different projects and expect to be in business with him.”
